Health and comfort are priorities in the Paint Shop

The new Ferrari and Maserati Paint Technologies Area is the most advanced in Europe and one of the most sophisticated in the world. Its vertical form allows every car body to undergo a series of unique processes, including a real 'dunk tank' – 360° coverage with protective fluid.

The Paint Shop has a surface area of 20,000 sq m and an overall height of 22 m at the point where the lift serving to stockpile on eight levels over eighty car bodies is located. The painting process, directed from a single control centre on which the various functional units depend, allows the bodies to be treated with a powder primer and water-based paints.

Designed by Marco Visconti, the Padiglione Verniciatura (Paint Shop) opened in 2004. It is a large box divided into three staggered blocks where different operations are carried out. The facing, part aluminium and part staves of opal glass, creates an opaque and glittering shell interrupted by transparent inserts that allow a view from outside of the most interesting stages of the painting process: not only does this high-tech 'skin' does have an aesthetic function, but it also serves as a regulating filter with regard to the external climatic conditions, thus contributing to the building’s energy efficiency.

Besides the excellent lighting, the control of the ventilation, the comfort of the microclimate and the functionality and safety of the work flows, the building has been designed to minimize the contact between the workers and the materials used in the paint shop.
